The Sound of Truth

Aug 12, 2018

“The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever…” What does it take to be called a man (or woman) after God’s own heart? Is it becoming sinless? Is it being perfect? Is it being really, really brave or incredibly smart or rich or famous? Well, in the case of King David, what it really took was a true heart of worship.

David was a man who lived his life entirely to glorify God in everything that he did. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking a little bit at the life of David in order to see this heart of worship in action and how he glorified God in just about everything he did. He was far from perfect, and we will see those sins that he commits as well as the repentance he would display.

This time, looking to Psalm 23, we start with his humble beginnings as a little shepherd boy caring for his father’s sheep. The time he spent as a shepherd impacted his whole worldview, including his understanding of God as the Good Shepherd who cares for His sheep. In turn, this helped him to understand his own standing before God.
