The Sound of Truth

Dec 9, 2017

Repetition is a great tool for learning. Whenever I want to memorize a new verse in Scripture, I will repeat it again and again until I’m able to remember it clearly without having to read it. Repetition is such an obvious tool to help people learn, and yet it seems to be seldom used today. We like to have instant gratification and so our attention spans are much shorter than they were in the past. That’s why, when we talk about something like the most repeated commandments in Scripture, there is a sort of collective groan. Why, oh why, are we going to talk about repetition?

Well, we must understand that God knows all too well how forgetful we can be. He also knows how useful repetition is, when used the correct way. So, when God repeats Himself in His written Word, we really need to pay attention. When God repeats Himself again and again and again, we need to open our eyes and pay attention to what He has to say.

The most repeated commandments in Scripture (and we’re only looking at the top four) have a common theme, or thread, running through them. By implication, God commands us to do one thing more than any other.  It is simply this: Be Joyful in our eternal satisfier, Jesus.

In order to fully understand this, we will be looking at John 15:1-14, especially verse 11.
