The Sound of Truth

Oct 8, 2017

Sometimes Scripture can be very difficult to interpret. Other times, it can be incredibly hard to comprehend. And, still other times, it can be so simple, so very straight forward, that we make it harder than it needs to be. We seem to especially do this when we don't like what Scripture has to say.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 is one of these verses. It is so simple, so straight forward, and yet so difficult to truly apply, that we sometimes wish we could gloss right over it. The commandment and challenge of the verse is simple. "Abstain from all appearance of evil." That's from the KJV, but even if we switch to another translation, it is still the same. "Keep away from every kind of evil." (NLT)

The question is, why? Why would God command us to stay away from evil? Why would He care what sort of appearance we give off to others? And what about the appearances others show to us? At the end of the day, just what exactly are we supposed to do about an appearance of evil?

In this episode, we seek to answer these questions and more as we study 1 Thessalonians 5:14-25.
