The Sound of Truth

May 20, 2017

Jealousy within families is to be expected. That isn't necessarily a good thing, but we acknowledge that it is likely to rear its ugly head at one point or another. What we don't expect is to find jealousy within our churches or within the Body of Christ. The thing is, jealousy is rampant within the church today, and it can be debilitating too. As the Body of Christ, if one foot is jealous of the other foot, its going to be crippling.

Most of the time, this jealousy is due to the idea that we have to work for God's love - the idea that God has favorites. That is absolutely not true - His love is freely given, and it is perfect. He has no favorites.

We can learn a lot about jealousy from the story of the prodigal son; more specifically, we can learn a lot about jealousy through the reaction of the elder son in this story, a.k.a. the other brother.
